What does this car say about you?

You're not a badge snob and appreciate a car for its virtues.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    Smart little runabout

Would you buy this car again and why?

Possibly - slightly concerned by poor crash test results and boot is on the miniscule side (just about holds a compact folded pushchair).

What are you likely to buy next?

Current cars which rival the Matiz are the Daihatsu Charade, Kia Picanto and Fiat Panda, though tempted by something with larger boot like Seat Ibiza or Skoda Fabia.

    £1,500

When did you buy the car?

    October 2004

Did you get a good deal and why?

One-owner, well-equipped & reliable runabout with full main dealer service history for £1500 = a bargain! Just wish I'd realised the cambelt was due for replacement before getting it home..

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Wanted a cheap, small, economical town runabout with 5 doors.

    What was the dealer like?

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

Very easy but not the last word in sophistication - ride, handling and refinement are very average. 800cc 3-cylinder engine has a nice thrum and pulls car along in town well enough whilst gently sipping fuel. Poor brakes.

    What's it like to park?

You could almost do it blindfold it's so easy!

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

No major problems at all. At time of purchase a local mechanic claimed there were early signs of engine head gasket failure, though it's still running strong over 18 months later.

What's most practical about your car?

The small external size makes parking easy as pie, but it still offers decent interior space for 4 adults. Very easy to drive.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Having A/C on a car like this is a boon, though when switched on it does sap engine power.
