  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

The car is fairly quick and is good fun to drive. It doesn't have the credibility or outright pace of the ST, but handles just as well and is substantially cheaper to buy and own.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

All who have been in the car have commented on the quality of the interior and the comfort on the move. The bodykit and alloys also add presence to the overall shape of the car.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would not buy this car again, solely because I do heavy motorway mileage and this car is better suited to country roads and town driving due to the short gearing.

What are you likely to buy next?

Focus/Astra size car, probably with a diesel engine.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £9,200

When did you buy the car?

    January 2006

Did you get a good deal and why?

Bought the car pre-registered over the internet. An excellent deal, as it was the 06 (facelift) model, with leather as part of the package.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

Broker was OK, though the wait from theorder was 13 weeks!

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

It is excellent to drive and handles very well. Steering is telepathic and the car will change line on the throttle. The ride quality is stiff, though not crashy. Some might find it too stiff around town, but once up to speed on main roads or motorways the ride levels out and the cabin remains refined for a small car. The downside of this model is that the gearing is very short for better acceleration, which makes motorway cruising a flawed matter. It also restricts the fuel economy (average of 37mpg without driving it hard is well below manafacturer figures!). A 70mph cruise will be at over 3500rpm, which is excessive for a car supposed to be 'grown up'. The engine is OK, but gets a bit thrashy/gruff when revved hard. It's not as sweet as the Vauxhall 1.6 but serves the purpose well enoug

    What's it like to park?

Very easy to park. Steering is power assisted and there are few blindspots.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Only issue of note have been sticky/noisy tappets when the engine was cold. This was resolved at the first service.

What's most practical about your car?

Excellent space inside the car. The seats are supportive and the rear passenger area is commodious for two adults to travel in comfort.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Three options should be taken: Bluetooth, MP3 jack and heated mirrors. The cabin looks good with black leather but needs the red dash to make it more airy.
