  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Cracking value used. A spacious, dynamically up to date, well specified and well made car, with loads around under 3k.

    Costs

    5 out of 5 5.0

Cheap parts and servicing, 42 mpg average, depreciation not an issue at these prices.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Excellent handling, steering and brakes. TD engine underpowered though.

    Performance

    2 out of 5 2.0

90PS in a big car. You do the maths. Slow off the line, but actually goes reasonably well once rolling. Engine reasonably smooth, but diesel rumble is ever present. Sounds awful when revved, so best driven gently.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

104,000 miles and still as reliable as clockwork, although will need a pair of CV joints soon. Otherwise if it had 50k on the clock, you wouldn't suspect otherwise. Build quality is excellent despite some cheap interior plastics.

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Unpretentious and honest. Far less socially offensive than ferrying the kids around in a 4x4.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Superb seats, effective air conditioning, cracking heater and excellent standard kit. Ergonomics and driving position cannot be faulted.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

No such thing with cars. Mondeo no better or worse than most.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Well out of warranty, so it gets serviced outside the network. Ford dealers helpful enough for parts.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

Idle speed needs resetting every service. Otherwise no faults

    Other

Front outer CV joints starting to click.
