  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Lots of electrical goodies for money, especially on higher spec models.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

So far so good. Good fuel economy from 1.8 engine. Ensure cambelts are replaced at around 60,000 to avoid expensive failure.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Nice handling, good brakes and ABS where fitted effective. Ride a little rough over broken surfaces.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

1.8 engine a little ponderous in mid-range for my liking - wish I had gone for the 2.0 litre version. But once at cruising speeds, it's not at all bad.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

No problems so far. Ensure that oil is changed. If blower throughput is poor, the pollen filter is most likley clogged up - only £9 to replace.

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Respected for its no-nonesense family values, but nothing special.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Great driving position (I'm 6' 5" tall). Comfy seats with lumber adjustment and power height adjustment. Not much room in back for tall occupants. Large boot is useful.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Mine has the optional Bosch 951 immobiliser, which I believe is effective. The alarm however is not so good and makes a clicking sound occasionally when you are driving along!!

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Costly, unhelpful dealers. Don't bother unless you have to.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Slightly tappy when it's been standing overnight in very cold conditions. But for 62,000 miles it's OK.

    Other

Trim rattles crop up from time to time. Seems typical of this model.
