In their own words

I thought I was on to a winner buying a Japanese car made in Japan. Mileage was a little high, but I thought reliability would be a given regardless. I was wrong. First the EGR leaked fumes (£200 to replace the part), then a front brake disc was found to be warped (£120 for two), the rear offside brake caliper seized (£200), then a rattle in the engine turned out to be a drive shaft pulley, and at the same time a sensor on the fuel pump developed a fault, and the car went into limp mode (£600 to fix both problems), the other rear brake caliper seized (£200), and the latest fault is a dead starter (cost unknown as yet). Also, the air-con needs regassing if it's to work (£140 or so to fix). This is mind-boggling expense (over £1,300 + servicing costs) in only eight months of ownership. The interior of the car is quite comfortable. It drives well enough after the rattly diesel has warmed and got up to speed. Gear change is a bit floppy and notchy, and often resists going down into 2nd. The car corners flat, even though it's heavy, but has a tendency to clunk over rough streets at low speed. The oil was inclined to stay in the motor. That's one positive. Features like folding mirrors and a reversing camera are useful, as are the AUX and USB sockets in the centre cubby hole. No electronic features were faulty, yet nothing can compensate for the mechanical unreliability of the car. It simply cannot be trusted to work.
