Honda Civic Estate 1998-

In their own words

It is a very practical car, but if you are tall like me you can feel a little cramped after a while. Exhaust rear boxes difficult to find due to extra length of tail pipe when compared to the hatchback. It has the luxury of a proper full size spare wheel, the air con is OK, but on really hot days struggles to cool the car due to the large volume. You can change the headlight bulbs in 15 minutes without requiring any tools and you will still have all ten fingers when you have completed the task. If you drive hard the fuel economy really suffers, but take it easy you can get 40mpg+ on a long journey. Visibility is quite good making it easy to park without the need of beeping sensors. Fits in a standard single garage and you can exit via the drivers door OK instead of the sunroof. Roof rails are very sturdy, and fitting a roof bars and box is a doddle. Does everything it says on the tin with no stupid gimmicks that a lot of modern cars these days are full off.

How reliable do you find the car?

The problems were mainly age related, perishing seals, leaking sump gasket etc. The only genuine fault in 100K was a seized rear brake caliper. Exhausts for the Aerodeck getting very hard to find.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

I bough the car as a stopgap and intended to keep it for 18 months maximum. 9 years later I sold the car and bought a Civic Tourer, however, considering the era it was built in, the Aerodeck slightly trumps the Tourer!
