Other Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

It says I’m not afraid to be put off by reputation/stigma (unjustified) and will judge a car on its merits.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

I have had all the usual Arthur Dailey jokes, been called a posh git etc, but this is simply just down to ignorance, and I just don’t care.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Most certainly, but I will go for the SE model. I need those leather seats and the sat nav.

What are you likely to buy next?

    The SE model.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £11,200

When did you buy the car?

    September 2010

Did you get a good deal and why?

I got this through the Civil Service Motoring Association. It uses Lloyd’s TSB Select and they have some great cars with genuine reductions for civil servants. Don’t think about using them though if you want to trade your car in with them, get shot of it first, their trade in values are crap.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Because, like any man that likes his cars, I have always wanted a Jag. The X-Type also has a classic British shape. The bonnet and grille is marvellous.

    What was the dealer like?

    They were pretty good.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

A joy. When I drove mine back up the M6 after I had just bought it, I felt like the dogs bollocks.

    What's it like to park?

Surprisingly easy, although mine does have front and rear parking sensors. I have to admit though, I do now tend to park away from trouble these days!

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nope. It has been stuck out in the cold for the past week (mainly at -8) and it has been a worry, but it seems to have survived so far.

What's most practical about your car?

I don’t mind admitting, it was a bit daunting buying this after owning countless large family saloons/hatchbacks, but it really is practical family car in every sense – with the added bonus of a bit of genuine luxury. It does have cream interior, so I would wait until the kids are a little older though.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Mine seems to have front and reversing parking sensors, and these are brilliant. The Bluetooth is also excellent. The mainly leather seats are so comfortable (I just wish Jaguar had gone the whole hog and made them all leather though).
