Jaguar 1981 XJ Saloon
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

A lot of car for very little money, but remember the running costs.

    Costs

    1 out of 5 1.0

The engine is much more economical than the old Series 3 (up to 26 mpg on a long run! ). Servicing costs can be high.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Almost theraputic to drive, but can wallow on sharp corners at speed.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Acceleration is good in 'sports' mode. Can handle itself fairly well at speed.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

I've had mine for a year, and so far there have been no problems. It pays to have it serviced regualrly, though.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

Makes an impression, but lacks the raffish image of the older Jags.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Superb ride and very comfortable seats. Very quiet, even at speed. But not much legroom the back.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Not exactly a challenge for an experienced car thief.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Rather pricey, but the service was OK.
