In their own words

Having had a Freelander 2 for a few years I upgraded to a Disco 4 with 40k on the clock, for the extra space and muscle. Cost me £20k. Soon after buying it I was obliged to SORN the car for a few months while I was out of the country. It was stored in accordance with the recommendations in a dry, warm garage. On my return the car had moisture in the fuel tank, hence new filter and drain out (£170). It immediately developed a leak on the steering gear (£340). Then the vehicle suspension jammed in LOW (£350) then, worst of all I got a yellow 'Limited Performance' warning light and a cloud of white/grey smoke from the exhaust. I limped to my local Land Rover fixer (an independent) who diagnosed that it need two new turbochargers, a new Intercooler, two MAFs, a turbo activator, filters, oil, labour, etc (£5250). Having got it back I had another cloud of Grey smoke from one exhaust pipe after less than 1000 miles. Back to the repairer who (again) replaced one of the turochargers (under warranty this time). His words to me were "These are not good cars. Too complicated. I have a workshop full of Land Rovers awaiting expensive repairs like yours. The only good Land Rover was the Defender". I immediately sold the car to a dealer for £12250. All in all it lost me over £13000.
