Other Mercedes-Benz CLK (1997 - 2003) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

That I like something with style and elegance, but without the bling. Its dark metalic blue so quite understated. The intearir is quartz grey which looks good but needs to be kept clean.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everybody is very complementary about the cars looks inside and outside. I upgraded the alloys to CLK Avantguarde rims which look better than the standard Elegance rims.

Would you buy this car again and why?

yes, but I don't like the look of the newer Mercedes CLK (2003 onwards) model which looks very ordinary. I guess I will have to look for a 2001 or 2002 low miliage model when I come to replace this one.

What are you likely to buy next?

Either another Mercedes CLK, same shape but newer, but possibly with a 6 cylinder engine, or maybe an AMG version.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £7,500

When did you buy the car?

    January 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

I was happy with the dealership. The car was a one lady owner car with only 60,000 miles and a full Mercedes service history.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

After coming from a company car I wanted something that I would enjoy owning rather than a repmobile.

    What was the dealer like?

Very good except the spare key was'nt supplied. I contacted the previous owner who had part exchanged the CLK for a new one at a MB dealer and loved her old CLK. She confirmed the miliage as well.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Very smooth and comfortable. The recirculating ball steering is free of kickback and won't satisfy a BMW driver as its a bit lifeless. Still it suits my way of driving.

    What's it like to park?

Pretty good, but it is quite a long car. The headrests in the back fold down at the touch of a dashboord button which is useful

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

I have travelled 36,000 miles in 18 months, and unbelievably nothing has gone wrong at all.I have had the car serviced by an official Mercedes dealership using the 7 year plus tarif which is very good value.

What's most practical about your car?

Its actually very roomy and was great for a camping weekend. The tent etc all fitted in as the back seats fold. Insurance is OK as I'm not too young and MPG is excellent averaging 34MPG over the last 3000 miles.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The Tiptrinic auto box is very smooth and the trip computer useful. My car has a factory sunroof and the dual climate control which both work well. Ive had an ipod charger and holster added which works through the Mercedes head unit.
