In their own words

1. Top-up Coolant

This was the first issue I experienced. The car has been back to the service dept of our local dealership to address the fault several times. First they tightened the cap, 2nd visit then they tightened the cap and topped up the coolant. 3rd visit they replaced the cap. 4th visit they replaced the reservoir. 5th visit they topped up the coolant and advised this is now a known issue and at some point in the future a replacement reservoir will be supplied by Mercedes to fix the fault.

2. Heated seat intermittent fault

I’ve been told by the dealership that the seat will need to be stripped down to investigate the fault and this could take 1-2 days. I was told this is unlikely to be covered by the warranty as it could have been damaged by force (i.e. by my usage) or by a mouse as we are in a countryside area. Essentially I’ve been put off investigating it as it is likely to take a long time and be at my cost because “the wiring doesn’t go wrong”. Given the best way to improve the range is to not use the blower but to instead use the heated seats, this is a big issue in winter months.

Nav system crashes

During use, the system freezes and restarts itself. This could be just when using the sat nav, Apple car play or making a phone call. Yesterday it crashed 3 times, today once so far. I estimate it has crashed and restarted 15-20 times in total over the last few weeks.

4. SOS inoperative

This displayed 5-6 times yesterday morning, each time after closing the alert it came back up again within a few seconds. Even though I didn’t obviously have a need to use the SOS, the continued alert appearing was very distracting when driving.

5. Malfunction red light

This appeared when turning the car on and has happened twice I believe.

6. Towing not permitted red light

This appeared when turning the car on. There was no attempt to tow, the car was parked on level ground in a car park.

7. Pre-emptive touch on screen

Once the nav screen, the options on the bottom of the screen keep flashing up despite no hand movements or any interference anywhere near the screen or touchpad. Upon investigation what I believe is the sensor for this function by the light buttons in the roof near the rearview mirror was extremely hot to the touch. I found where to disable the function so it has been turned off since then.

8. Radar sensors dirty

Near where I live there are some long-term roadworks with a contra-flow supported by barriers either side of the single lane. Every day when I drive through (I do this 4 times a day with two back and forth trips from my home to my daughter’s school) the alert comes up on the screen to say “radar sensors dirty”. This happens only ever when driving through the barriered contra-flow so I don’t believe they are actually dirty, they just aren’t configured well enough to handle the close barriered environment. It also means that a key safety feature is always disabled (unless I stop and start the car) during my child’s school runs.

In short, there are issues pretty much every day with the car. It is the first Mercedes I have had and it will absolutely be the last.
