I was looking for an open top sports car and the SLK280 pipped its peer group on it's all round usability. The Boxter was a close second for me, but the SLK is more comfortable on a long run and its folding metal roof is more durable and has better sound proofing tha a soft top. The MPG isn't great at 28-34 but could be a lot worse. The only downside is how it seems to exacerbate bad behaviour in boy/girl racers at traffic lights etc.
How reliable do you find the car?
The rear subframe was found to be corroded on an annual service and fixed FOC by Mercedes in 5 days. It's also had a recall for a fuel pump. The car gas run faultlessly and is my daily runner.
Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
This car has exceeded my expectations especially as its nearly 15 years old and drives like it's in its first flush of youth.
