Other Peugeot 206 (1998 - 2009) models:

  • Summary

    3 out of 5 3.0

What does this car say about you?

It probably says I am a bit boring and since I haven't replaced the hub caps that were stolen 3 years ago, a bit cheap.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

My family like it but I think my neighbours aren't too impressed.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No because of the very annoying leak. The engine is available in other cars that don't try to drown you.

What are you likely to buy next?

I'm thinking of a Prius because of the immense amounts of gadgets to play with.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £4,500

When did you buy the car?

    July 2006

Did you get a good deal and why?

I got a fairly good deal as the car had previously been owned by Peugeot so had been fully factory serviced before I received it and I was the first official owner for the V5.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

It has a split boot opening so I can fit in long things easily.

    What was the dealer like?

The dealer was pretty good to deal with at the dealership I eventually bought from. I went to a few other franchised dealers before I found one I thought I could deal with though. Experiences ranged from very high pressure sales techniques to blatantly lying, but the one I bought from seemed decent and honest enough.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

The 2 litre engine has good torque and can be pretty sprightly, although it can be quite a noisy car on long motorway journeys.

    What's it like to park?

Probably the easiest car to park I have ever owned. It is fairly compact despite it's load space and the steering is easy and responsive.

  • Living with it

    3 out of 5 3.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

I have owned a couple of Peugeots and the best thing about them has always been the diesel engines. This is absolutely the same and the power train has given me no problems at all. However, I have had to replace the front discs twice due to excessive rust and there is a leak that fills the passenger footwell with enough water to satisfy a camel after crossing the Sahara every time it rains. Apparently this is quite a common problem with the 206 and the causes seem to be numerous. I still haven't found the root of my particular leak.

What's most practical about your car?

The dual opening boot is the cars most practical aspect. With the back seats down it is surprising how much stuff can be squeezed in there. I have fitted in enough wood to build a small bridge and a full rock bands equipment (not at the same time) without any trouble.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

There is not an over abundance of gadgets but I find the steering wheel audio controls useful.
