Peugeot 405 Saloon 1988
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Bought it for £1750 two years ago and it has been fantastic value for money.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

I perform all the servicing myself so £40 for the oil, filters etc..

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very comfortable considering it is dated.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

It IS a diesel, but the thing has sooo much torque so it eats hills in 5th quite easily. Probably would be a fabulous towing car if required.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very reliable. I've done 45k miles in 2 years and it's had a suspension arm replaced and is having a head gasket replaced.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

This isn't about image as it's not making a statement. But, for the money I spent, it's one of the best cars all round I have EVER had. Previously had Golf Mk1 Sportline convert, Subaru Impreza WRX and a Vauxhall Nova!

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

On the whole, very comfortable and has good driving position. Radio remote control is very nice feature also air-con but tends to kill the power when activated!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Not particularly secure, but then who would want to nick it?

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not had to deal with Peugeot dealer as regular servicing done myself.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

    NONE, other than head gasket.

    Other

Strange buzzing noise from dashboard since owning. It could be a dodgy relay but it hasn't failed anything.
