Buy it pretty cheap, but this age is deprieciating all the time, and with a new clio soon...

    Costs

    2 out of 5 2.0

Lots of small things to get it though MOTs ect, parts expensive. MPG good but no where near 50 MPG qouted

    Driving

Quite an enjoyable experience as a first car once you change the skinny tyres for better ones. No power steering is hard work though. Gets 5 speed geearbox and newer (and much more reliable) engine than the older models.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

For a base model, ins group 3, very good. Will cruise (with a bit of noise) at 80-90 comfortably on the motorway, and will handle most A roads fine, can run out of puff a bit up a hill though.

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Never broken down on me in 15000 miles, but lots of small issues. Nothing major

    Image

Clio has good image. With some nice alloys looks much nicer that a lot of hatches. Facelift looks much more fresh than older clios

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Very comfortable seats, a bit cramped when you are 6'4 though

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

One person tried to nick it and failed, good immobiliser too, but I could see someone knowing what they are doing getting in pretty easy

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

    Didnt use official Renault

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

    Only very minor niggles

    Other

Brakes always squeek. Mostly wear and tear stuff eg bearings etc. Also dont leave your sunroof in ajar position in rain, it will flood the roof inc immobiliser. Great design there!
