  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good value for money, phase 2 models cheap to buy and even cheaper to run and maintain.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

I was quoted nearly £155 for the cat on the exhaust, the local scrap yard charged me £15 for the full exhaust which had been fitted new to the scrap car I took it off.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very responsive and easy to drive, fits through spaces that other cars can't.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Out of the 7 cars I have owned my Clio is the fastest I have drove, can keep up with modern traffic better than some new cars.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Apart from the immobiliser giving up on me I've had no problems, starts first time even with 8 inches of snow on the bonnet.

Even though it is ten years old I think its still a very modern looking car, and it still has a lot of street cred.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Very good on a long trip, the seats are firm and hug your back giving it support, doors are very wide for such a small car which helps my disabled mother get in and out of the passenger seat.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Immobiliser died on me soon after buying the car which left me stranded, at a later date it only took 10 minutes to take the immobiliser out.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

My local Renault dealer doesn't seem to know much about the older Clios, other than the inquiry on the immobiliser I haven't needed to get in touch with Renault, my car is a scrap yard/home mechanic maintained Clio.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

My Clio is on 85k and still has a lot of life left in it, slight misfire which I think could be down to the spark plugs or the ignition leads, other than that its in good health.

    Other

Passenger side wheel bearing started to make noise a couple of weeks ago and I had to adjust the handbrake cable and replace the clutch cable, because it had stood on a driveway for a year before I bought it.
