What does this car say about you?

That despite many horror stories about Renault reliability I am prepared to give any manufacturer a chance. The stop/start failing to work properly is giving me some doubts but we'll wait and see.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Well its no head turner so I have not had any neighbours or friends salivating over it although they do acknowledge its out and out practicality. The family love it to bits though.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Not too sure as its too early to tell re reliability etc. We will be keeping it for 3 years so who knows what will be about in 2014.

What are you likely to buy next?

I very much liked the Orlando and this will certainly be on the list to look at. I like the look of the new Zafira Tourer and who knows - Renault will surely have brought an update by the time i am ready to change.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £19,500

When did you buy the car?

    October 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

We were happy enough with the deal.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

We needed a 7 seater due to the arrival of our fourth grandchild. We looked at the Chevrolet Orlando, the Zafira and the Grand C maxas well and would have chosen the Chevrolet but for the extended delivery time. With this out of the picture we decided on the renault as offering the best package for the money.

    What was the dealer like?

Initially we ordered a 1.5 dci dynamique Tom Tom and were given a waiting time of 4 months. When the day for delivery arrived we were telephoned to be told that a "clanger" had been dropped as the car that had arrived was a normal Scenic The dealer tried everything to convince us that the standard scenic would suit us despite our protestations that we wanted a 7 seater. They did redeem themselves within a day by locating a Grand Scenic from another of their outlets with the added bonus was that it was the 1.6 stop start.

    What's it like to drive?

Its very good to drive. There's lots of low down torque and gear changing is kept to a minimum as a result. The ride is smooth and poor road surfaces are coped with admirably. Engine/road noise are very well subdued and on the motorway it cruises brilliantly.

    What's it like to park?

This is quite a large car but parking is pretty easy due to the more or less flat back and short bonnet.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Well, the stop start has barely ever worked. It was taken into the dealership and kept for 2 days only for them to tell us that we were doing too many short journeys and the battery was only up to 80% capacity. This was despite telling them that it did not work even a fter a 70 mile run! This ongoing.

What's most practical about your car?

Space and access. The rearmost seats are good for this size of car and can quite easily accomodate an adult (albeit for reasonably short journeys). For kids the seats are ideal.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Nothing really comes to mind here. I must be a bit old fashioned as I am not too enamoured with the TFT screen or the electric hand-brake. I might have liked the stop/start if it worked but it doesn't.
