Other Renault Megane (2002 - 2006) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

As a young couple with no kids, we do not really like the family image that comes attached, however we still needed a practical, 5 door car. I think it looks mature and, in black like ours, quite executive.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They like the space inside and the smooth ride.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, as I find the drive to be a bit dull and the petrol consumption to be just a touch on the heavy side around town.

What are you likely to buy next?

We are buying a 2 seater soft top soon as a second car, so we can have the best of both worlds!

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £1,995

When did you buy the car?

    January 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

Not really, paid top dollar for an absolutely pristine low-mileage example, only to find out a few weeks later when I took it for a service that it needed quite a few maintenance bits done and was overdue for a timing belt change.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Felt it was time for a bigger car than my previous Renault Megane 2002 Coupe, which I p/exed for £600 with very little mot left, so fair enough.

    What was the dealer like?

    Friendly enough.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Has reasonable power, isnt nippy as such but is quick enough for such a heavy car. Will struggle uphill fully laden. Nice and smooth however, excellent cushioned suspension and a nice motorway cruiser.

    What's it like to park?

Easy, has a flat rear windscreen and a nice light clutch that moves off on even the lowest of revs.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing has gone wrong that has been unexpected, only general maintenance jobs that I inherited from the previous owner - new brake discs and pads, 2 new tyres, new battery, new reverse light switch, front lightbulb, timing belt + water pump change, new track rod end and suspension arm. However it is very reliable, the engine has done us 10000 miles in 6 months trouble free.

What's most practical about your car?

Large boot coupled with fold-flat split-folding rear seats makes for an extremely practical car. In the last 6 months I have moved house with this car (squeezing in a double mattress, table, chairs etc.) and went on holiday many times to other ends of the country, packing it to the roof with luggage, bedding, deckchairs you name it! and carries the dogs in comfort.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Trip computer, good heaters, cd player. i would say I like that it has 4 electric windows but 2 of them dont work!
