    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

As far as economy (50+mpg), tax (£115), insurance (group 7), are concerned fantastic, makes the most out of our over-priced fuel duties! Bought at 6 months old with only 2K on the clock, saved around £4K on new, not great residuals.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Parts & servicing can be deemed reasonable by today's standards. Car has completed 13K stress-free miles, no un-ordinary tyre wear, good for at least another 5K, new 17's could pricey - time to shop around (makes me wonder how some people drive).

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent, 17's hold the road well, very low road noise. Have driven other cars in the same class and found them to be dull (focus, C4 and 307), power steering is light but easy to adapt to.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Smooth, quick and plenty of pull would be my words, although the newer model has increased torque and power output, on the other hand manufacturers figures don't do the car justice. Pulls well through the range even in 6th, beware of speed limits.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Starts first time every-time, I have a 90 mile round trip to work, the car has to perform and does.

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

Not keen on the 5-door version but the 3-door does stand apart from a 'samey' 3-door hot-hatch look that has developed (C4 aside). Bit like Marmite I suppose...... but I like that too!

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Front seats great in the dynamique model, average in others. Passenger space no different to other 3-doors cars of its class, boot space is limited. 'Thrust' hand-brake is great. 10 airbags are a comfort (I'd imagine), not that I anticipate seeing them!!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Thatcham one, keyless handsfree entry that I'm lost without when using other cars. Car locks itself and auto door lock when in motion all work well. Funny how BMW have 'adopted' a keyless entry system on newer models now.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fortunately not much contact with the dealership, ordered some replacement trim clips that the garage managed to sell to someone else though!

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

    Other

Drivers mirror seems 'jerky' when folding, windows seem to rattle, drivers seat trim frayed from seatbelt rubbing. Yet to experience dealers response to these.
