Other Renault Megane (2006 - 2009) models:

  • Summary

    2 out of 5 2.0

What does this car say about you?

A stylish dynamic individual who is a bit more mainstream than those who like the Megane Hatch!!!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They as I loved the roomy practical interior of the Megane (which like the outside was finished to a high quality)and the special order Extreme Blue paint which was worth the wait as it looked fantastic especially when cleaned and waxed!

Would you buy this car again and why?

I will not buy another Renault for a long time until they sort their electrical problems out. The car cost me a lot of money

What are you likely to buy next?

I did sell the Megane after 14 months as i was scared to drive it anymore and had a Mazda3 which was largely trouble free! I am now buying a new Citroen C3 as my circumstances have changed (don't commute to work in the car now) and don't need such a large car.

  • Buying experience

    5 out of 5 5.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £13,500

When did you buy the car?

    March 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

I saved £1800 off the list price of my car by shopping through the CSMA Car Shop as a club member. They delivered my car to the door, with a tank of fuel and mats and their staff were all excellent at all times!

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I first saw a Sport Saloon on holiday in Cannes in 2004 and fell in love with the car and thought it looked sporty and much better than the ugly Megane Hatch!

    What was the dealer like?

See above - Sales. I had the servicing done at my local Renault dealer Walker Renault. They were not a good garage and were very good at denying faults, charging expensive labour rates and not good ambassadors for Renault. I complained to Renault UK about them. Since i had my car, they have gone into liquidation.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

My Megane was very nice to drive (when i was able to!) and stuck to the road like glue, having the benefit of the sports suspension and disc brakes all round!. I also had traction control and this helped in the bad weather, making you in control in the snow. The 1.4 engine was adequate, but a bit underpowered in this heavy car and economy was very poor, even using cruise control. My brother's 1.6 VVT Megane CC was much better and I wish i had paid £500 more for the 1.6!

    What's it like to park?

I will make no secret of the fact that it is a very long car, with long bonnet and boot. Visibility is poor, with quite big blind spots and a high back window. Lots of guess work is required to avoid scrapes, especially in multi storey car parks. There are bad blind spots, but the wide angle drivers mirror helps!

  • Living with it

    1 out of 5 1.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

After about 6 months of ownership, my car had terrible electrical failures, including failures of components including the radio, cruise control and heater and the scary incident of shutting down on the motorway at 70mph and then restarting, which made me terrified to drive the car and i sold it when it was 14 months old!

What's most practical about your car?

A very large boot, with split rear seats, which carries enough luggage for an army! Practical interior with full seating for five adults and my 2 brothers, who are well over 6 feet tall were fine in the back!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Cruise control which was an option, but made long journeys so much better!!!
