  • Economy

    Value

    3 out of 5 3.0

Guide price much lower than what you'll find if buying second despite MG Rover going under. In my experience of looking to buy this car all second hand prices look to add at least £200 to the guide price.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Relatively cheap and economical to run.

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Quiet and smooth, power steering and gear box ok but not great.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very fast car for its engine size. Develops 101BHP which is far more than most other 1.4 cars (Clio, Astra, Escort, etc) which only developed 60-80BHP. Have easily beaten friends in similar cars.

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Plastic throttle body prone to warping and therefore causing throttle to stick. Head known to be an issue but has not happened on my car.

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Rover's image is not great (old man's car) but the 200 series does look sporty and whilst old still looks good compared to newer cars.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

    Comfortable on long drives.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Throttle body sticking - either replace with alloy throttle body (as found on later models, i.e. 25 and MG ZR) or simply clean throttle body with WD40 and lightly grease once a week.
