Rover 400 Saloon 1990-
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Cheap to buy and lots of car for the money.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Rover parts expensive, as are services. Excellent MPG compensates for this.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Great driving position with left-foot rest plate. Good visibility all round and clearly laid out controls.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Average round town, but good for motorways and overtaking. Turbo is obvious, and needed.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

No breakdowns so far and many miles covered.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

Old Grandad, carpet slipper image. Friends make fun, but I don't care - I like it.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Comfortable seats. Rear moulded head restraints and arm rest make it nice for passengers. Excellent legroom all round and easy access. I can see why Grandads like them.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Remote central locking and alarm, but no immobiliser.

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Dealers have consistently been pricey and unhelpful. I would buy another Rover, because I like them, but I would think about a newer 200 or 25, rather than the bigger car.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

No problems. A little loud and smokey for 85,000 miles.

    Other

Model spec wierd - electric sunroof and manual windows??

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
