Rover 400 Saloon 1996-
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Nice touches. Generally found on other manufacturer's higher spec models.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Rover service is a waste of (lots!) money. Parts and labour cheap from other vendors and work appeared to be of a higher quality.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Not fantastic in the wet, but generally a smooth ride. Could be a little more precise.

    Performance

    2 out of 5 2.0

Another gear (6) might help! Motorway driving tends to sit too high in the revs.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    2 out of 5 2.0

Car cylinder head has failed twice (in defence, once as a result of poor work by a garage).

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

Straight forward and professional. For a younger driver, a strange coice of car maybe, but still a professional looking vehicle.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Seats comfortable. Maybe raise the gear change/console a little. Rear lacks space, but dont spend (much) time in there.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Had difficulty turning off imobiliser, and I had a key!! Imagine poor Mr Car Thief.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Dealers have some interpersonal issues, which has prompted me to another manufacturer.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Cylinder head gasket.

    Other

Exhaust system very flimsy. Makes a nice rattling tune now though, kind of like that Eminem chap.
