What does this car say about you?

I suppose the image is of someone getting on in life, who panders to the past and likes to support anything British.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Most people think it is stylish and are surprised at the excellent level of equipment and extras.

Would you buy this car again and why?

If they started making them again then I probably would buy another.

What are you likely to buy next?

Perhaps a Passat, Mondeo or Audi.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £10,000

When did you buy the car?

    September 2006

Did you get a good deal and why?

The car was on a 55 plate and 11 months old when I bought it. It had 18,000 miles on the clock. Cost £23,000+ new and I got it for just over £10,000. I thought it was a bargain.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Have always admired its looks and the reviews it got when it first came out were impressive. I particularly liked the retro look and feel.

    What was the dealer like?

Very helpful and keen to sell as they had just taken up a SEAT franchise.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Has enough power to accelerate quickly but is at its best on the motorway where its BMW engine finds everything very easy. Stable enough on winding roads but tendency to roll a bit if pushed hard.

    What's it like to park?

Reasonable lock and although visibility through rear windscreen could be better the sensors overcome any problems.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

The electric fan had to be replaced. Took a week or two to source one but apart from that and having owned the car for 2 and half years it has cost me nothing, apart from annual servicing.

What's most practical about your car?

Went on holiday to Yorkshire last year and got 727 miles on one tank full of diesel. Must be a record!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Whilst I like the parking sensors and the Smartnav I really do appreciate the cruise control. Driving at about 60mph in the inside lane of the motorway makes for a relaxed drive.
