Other Rover 75 (1999 - 2004) models:

  • Summary

    1 out of 5 1.0

What does this car say about you?

    I'm gullible.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They love it, comfort and luxury.

Would you buy this car again and why?

    Never.

What are you likely to buy next?

Something reliable, Japanese I suppose (and ashamed) to say.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,750

When did you buy the car?

    September 2008

Did you get a good deal and why?

Knowing what I know now I should have done some research! There were two 75's on offer - a gold saloon and a a blue estate. Price seemed reasonable to me for the condition and miles.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

My third Rover, previous ones being a 114 and 214 hatchbacks. Both were pretty reliable but both had head gaskets at around 90000 miles. Main reason for buying Rovers is because I'm old traditionalist, plus the comfort is superb.

    What was the dealer like?

Very nice chap, been around for years and known in the area.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

You get used to the size, and finding a large enough space to park. Heavy car, can't be thrashed - why build a 1.8 car then put a turbo on it? Just don't make it in the first place.

    What's it like to park?

You get used to it, sensors essential.

  • Living with it

    1 out of 5 1.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Has anything gone wrong - what an understatement! How about 4 head gaskets, new turbo, new radiator, endless water leaks, fuel tank sensor, sat nav packed up, new discs, reverse sensors breaking, erratic computer readouts, washer pump etc etc. This car has now done 112000 miles and I'm going to scrap it so no-one else has to suffer like I have. I bought it with 40,000 miles on the clock so that works out at head-off every 30000miles? Incredible. It's probably cost me £10000 in four years to keep it on the road what with low profile tyres and meagre fuel consumption and all the rest. Saying that, the few times it was sorted - it was gorgeous!

What's most practical about your car?

Comfort cruising, reverse parking sensors essential, loads of space in back.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Cassette player! Forget all this CD stack system malarky, I'd buy a car with a record player if anyone made one.
