Rover Metro (1990 - 1995) 1.1 S 3d Owner Review

Rover Metro 1990-

In their own words

I bought this car back in October of 2019 as part of a bet to sell the car I had at the time, obviously I won as I have owned the car since then, I do not regret it, my little Metro has been an amazing little car and companion. The car was appraised by Autocar in 1990 as "the best small car" and I wholeheartedly agree, it mixes the practicality of a supermini with the fun of a hot hatch perfectly, with neutral handling and a decent size boot. I got my Provisional back in June of last year, and have used the car to learn to drive in, and when I passed my test in October as a daily, the car has given me no trouble at all, while being probably the best first car I could have asked for, small, easy to park, fun, economical, and pretty comfortable. The only reason I am selling it this year is because I'm looking for a bigger, more wafty car, enter Rover 800, but more on that when I eventually get to drive it for a while.

As a TLDR and conclusion, the Metro is a fun, driver orientated small hatchback that while not as practical as a Fiesta, is definitely worth sacrificing the slight bit of rear legroom for neutral handling, a nicer ride, smoother and more powerful engine, and a generally nicer, rarer, and in my eyes at least, cooler car.

How reliable do you find the car?

Only done about 4k miles in the car over the past 5 months since I passed my test, but it's been reliable with the only thing needed doing was an oil change.
