Saab 900 Convertible 1994-
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very good value, especially compared to a 3 series convertible but then it has to be as it is no where near as interesting to drive.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Had it one year and it has cost me nothing, very cheap to run, the computer says 27mpg when travelling at a steady 95mph. SAAB main dealer servicing is expensive, specialist half the price and just as good if not better..

    Driving

Smooth and comfortable, steering awful, handling below average, performance adequate but even so a 'nice' drive.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

4 speed auto is dreadful, too high geared compared to a 5 speed BMW. Sometimes will not kick down to give adequate speed. Best performance is between 30 and 80mph where it goes quite well. Handling is not so good with steering poor, nervous if pushed!

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Superb, I have had an MX-5 BBR Turbo, Astra (never mind), Triumph Herald, Lotus Elise, BMW 525, a Volvo and now the SAAB, it is bar far the most reliable.

It's green with standard wheels, what image! I wanted a 4 seater convertible with no pose value. I discounted everything else, it is understated and discreet. Nigel Havers and Joanna Lumley would be perfectly suited owners (if you know what I mean).

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Probably most comfortable car I have had, just remember to hang on round the corners. No aches or pains after 5 hour journeys. Also range very good, 400+ on a tank.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

I would assume ok. The immobiliser kicks in if left for over one minute unlocked, this can cause problems at fuel stations where you have to re lock then unlock to go!

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Bought from main dealer, valley SAAB in Chipstead, Surrey. Very good to deal with and most helpful. Servicing costs too expensive for an old car however.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

    Strong as an Ox!

    Other

Hood motors went, these were replaced for free by Valley SAAB as a good will gesture, very impressive on an 8 year old car!
