  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

I'm not really bothered. These cars do seem to have a bit of a following these days, and I suspect that it's a future classic, but we're not quite there yet.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    I don't really care...

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, but then I think that many owners seem to go back for more on these cars, as there isn't really anything else quite like it.

What are you likely to buy next?

It's too early to say. My wife is the main driver these days, and she loves it, so we'll probably keep it until it breaks, which could be a very long time.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £5,000

When did you buy the car?

    February 2008

Did you get a good deal and why?

I think it was a good deal. I bought it approved used, and nearly 5 years later I could sell it for 2 thirds the price I paid.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

Good, by dealer standards. I've not been back since collecting it though. So not really much to go on.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Nice. There's no doubting it's a diesel, and clatters away at idle, but the combination of a big diesel and small car makes it feel impossibly muscular in everyday driving. When you really go for it, it doesn't actually have much more to give, as it's all about mid-range torque, but for 99% of the time, it feels like its got all the performance you could need. Handling is tidy, if a little front heavy, and economy is excellent if you take it easy. I average about 55mpg, but I've seen 65mpg on a run.

    What's it like to park?

No problem. It's relatively compact, and visibility is good. Steering lock could be better, but that's inevitable with a big engine and wheels to package in the same space.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing major, for a car approaching its 10th birthday. Suspension bushes were needed for the last MOT, and the radiator was replaced after it developed a crack. All in, very reliable.

What's most practical about your car?

It's practical enough for a small car. I once drove to Ukraine for 2 weeks with four people and their luggage - what more do you need?

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

There aren't really any gadgets or options. The engine is really the key part of the experience. It's nice to be carried along on a wave of torque.
