Other Skoda Octavia (2004 - 2013) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Solid reliable, never flustered a go anywhere sort of attitude.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They think it suits me and are more than happy to ask for a 'carry' with the seats down it has taken ladders, fir trees, a flowers for a banquet all without complaint.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Alas no longer in the model range but would definitely buy a 4x4 estate again without a doubt.

What are you likely to buy next?

A 4X4 estate without doubt. Possibly a Skoda Superb or VW Passat alltrack.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £18,960

When did you buy the car?

    March 2010

Did you get a good deal and why?

We used the guide price from Parker's and an online reference site to persuade the Sales Manager to sell it to us at 'fleet' price. As the car was 'in stock' we did a great deal and both sides were happy.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

We wanted an estate car but had always liked our previous 4x4 SUV so the Scout was a nice consensus of practicality, affordability and economy.

    What was the dealer like?

Fair, willing to do a deal and offered a fair few dealer add-ons like carpet mats, emergency kit and spare bulbs. Only half a tank of gas but we weren't quibbling at that stage.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

It drives well and on motorways just goes up hill or down dale without complaint. Cruise control is used more as a speed limiter as it's all too easy to exceed the legal limit without noticing! The 4x4 gives excellent grip in rain or snow and although I don't push it too hard it helps in tight corners and spirited B roads.

    What's it like to park?

It is quite a long car but the reversing sensors give a lot of confidence. Folding door mirrors would have been a nice to have.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

It has once failed to start through a flat battery, caused we think by switching off the front air-bag! New front tyres at 26k and rear ones at 33k.

What's most practical about your car?

Sheer space and practicality of the load bay. For a car based on a Volkswagen golf floor pan the boot space is cavernous. The 4x4 in the the snow three years running kept us well out of trouble.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Rear parking sensors, saved many a near scrape in car parks, country lanes and narrow driveways.
