Other Skoda Octavia (2004 - 2013) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Middle aged, middle of the road Mr Average. but I don't want to be what I'm not and I am all those things; so I'm exceptionally happy.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They all think it suits me and they like riding in it as passenger space is generous even for 5 adults. My son and daughter like borrowing it because it's capacious and not too 'old man's' car!

Would you buy this car again and why?

Skoda stopped making this particular version shortly after I bought it but the new version is due out by the end of this year (2013) so I would be tempted to get an updated model next year; so yes.

What are you likely to buy next?

I'd go for another 4 wheel drive estate without hesitation and if the new Octavia Scout is as good as the last one then almost certainly one of those.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £18,680

When did you buy the car?

    February 2010

Did you get a good deal and why?

We used the What Car target price and also investigated some on-line deals.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I wanted a four wheel drive estate but not an SUV so the Skoda Scout was the ideal compromise between a conventional estate and a medium sized SUV.

    What was the dealer like?

Excellent and was prepared to negotiate which was a refreshing change from certain other dealers we approached.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Drives like most other mid sized estates I guess, Diesel power torque kicks in at about 1500 rpm so overtaking is a breeze and it goes up motorway hills in 6th with barely a sigh! The seats are comfortable and I never arrive exhausted because it's a very relaxing car to drive.

    What's it like to park?

It's ok but you do have to take account of the length, especially the boot overhang; so reversing sensors are a must have. Steering lock is good so reverse parallel parking is not a problem; neither are three point turns.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

    Absolutely nothing.

What's most practical about your car?

Estate space yet very quiet about town and on the motorway. The fuel consumption is about the manufacturer's quoted average (i.e. halfway between worst and best _ 46.5mpg).

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Four wheel drive in the snow and the reversing sensors - both brilliant.
