Toyota Camry Saloon 1996-
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

The best value exec saloon I could find.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fairly thirsty car, but costs are offset by cheap purchase price! Spares expensive, but you won't need many.

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Wallows a bit on twisty roads. Very comfortable car to cover big journeys in. Climate and cruise control together with leather and auto-box make it very relaxing to drive.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good mid-range so plenty in reserve for overtaking on fast A-roads. Auto-box saps some performance.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

163,000 miles and still running sweet. Uses no oil between changes. Small weep of Dexron from auto-box, but easier to top up every 6 months than to fix. Personally think oil changes every 5000 miles is the secret to long life.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

Bland and near invisible in terms of status. Look beyond the badge and enjoy this often over-looked gem.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Superb comfort from electric leather seats. 6-8 hour journeys are no problem. V6 engine and auto box are quiet and silky-smooth.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Anonymous looks mean that it goes un-noticed. Alarm and immobiliser fitted as standard.

    Service

    5 out of 5 5.0

Very helpful dealerships - they reset my alarm/immobiliser 'plipper' for free!
