Other Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Don't know really. That im definetely not a boy racer (im female so not a big issue by any means).

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They like it. I think they think Yaris's suit me and my driving style.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes but a younger car, slightly higher mileage (but definitely below average) and probably three door (as they seem quicker).

What are you likely to buy next?

Probably another Yaris, definetely one with a 1.3 or bigger engine. Anything below a 1.3 would be sluggish I suspect and a pain on the motorway.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    May 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

I felt I paid to much for this age of car. Although having done some research before deciding to purchase it was the going rate of the year and mileage. It had a very low mileage for its age which I was apprehensive about. So I paid more then I would like for this age of car.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Reliable reputation of Toyota. Also the looks of the car have not dated that much despite its age. Needed an automatic as only hold an auto licence at the moment. Needed a car fairly quickly as previous car had been written off by another driver.

    What was the dealer like?

Small garage, local dealer. Taxed, serviced and MOT'ed before purchase and given a three month warranty. I have never dealt with the garage before but it has been in business for years and I get the impression its trusted by its regular customers.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Good in town, smooth light steering. Though the gearbox sometimes slides into the wrong gear. Motorway driving is ok and kept at a steady pace of 70mph its fine but not enough omph to change lanes very quickly. Also if you put your foot down flat in the hope of going quickly fast the engine sounds strained. But to be fair this is a 1.3 engine car so its got to be be expected. I found my 3dr yaris seemed to have a little more omph despite having the same engine size. Were thinking it maybe down to the weight of the car.

    What's it like to park?

    Easy no problems.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Not yet and considering it only had about 19000 miles on the clock at the time of purchase and ive driven it on a four hour plus journey mainly on motorways and back its done well so far. One of the main reasons I did this was to see if the gearbox would be ok during the warranty period and for fuel enconomy reasons as we could of taken my boyfriends which is a bigger car.

What's most practical about your car?

Five doors are a definite bonus but not essential in my view for the my usage purposes.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Expanding boot, very useful as the boot is quite small, the back seats just slide forward no problem! I also think the speaker sound quality on the stereo is reasonable.
