What does this car say about you?

Not exactly sure, its a solid, sensible choice and with VW badge a cut above most rivals image wise.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They all love it, some like that fact it a veedub, some like the space and comfort others say it feels alot more solid and safe that my last car (Sportka).

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would probably buy another VW, but by the time I'll be looking again the Fox will be getting on a bit. I like new Polo and waiting to see what Fox's replacement (the UP!/Lupo) will be like. If not VW I like the look of Citroen's new C3.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Undecided.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £7,500

When did you buy the car?

    April 2009

Did you get a good deal and why?

Few thousend off guide price, every option excluding alloys. Rare and desirable options such as air con and side airbags.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I did not set out to buy a Fox, a friend sells VW's, I asked him about Beetles and he mentioned they had a brand new Fox a customer had ordered then on delivery cancelled in favour of a Golf plus. The customer had ordered a base model 1.4 and spent £3,000 on options (he did not want the Urban model as it has pop open windows in the back and he thought they might leak?!). This Fox came pretty much fully loaded with colour coded bumpers/mirrors, remote locking with alarm, elec windows/mirrors, side airbags and rare air conditioning, leather wheel/gearstick/handbrake covering. On top of this he also threw in chrome strip on bootlid, paint/interior protection treatment, 12mths tax, tank of fuel, mudflaps, boot liner and rubber matts. All in all around £10,000 worth of Fox for £7,500.

    What was the dealer like?

    Very helpful, pleasant.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Very easy to drive, sit up high, large expanse of windscreen and dash ahead of you so feels a little like an mpv. Sitting up higher than most other small/family cars you get good view. Being the large 1.4 it has decent performance, not earth-shatteringly fast but respectable plus 40-50 mpg. Feels solid, secure and stable, handles well, smooth gearchange, quiet, well shaped supportive seats, soothing ride. The only fault I can really find is that its a little uninvolving and dull as a result, but I was coming from a Ford Sportka so that was to have been expected!!

    What's it like to park?

Easy to park, light (speed sensitive) steering, lots of glass, short snout and chopped off rear.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Problems with bootlid not locking with central locking, fixed under warrenty with no fuss.

What's most practical about your car?

HUGE amount of space for a small motor, I forget Im driving a city car, decent boot, spacious cabin, passengers love it as they can stretch out, supportive seats, very smooth ride....and I used to drive hydropneumatic Citroens!!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Air conditioning, rare option on the Fox as it costs the best part of £1,000.
