Its a golf - A well respected image and nice looking car. It's a shame it flatters to deceive when it comes to reliability.

Would you buy this car again and why?
Beware - The 1.6 SE 1999T model VW Golf has a flawed gearbox design. Weak rivets shear off, puncture a hole in the gearbox housing and often cause oil to leak on the clutch, ruining that too.

Have you had any problems with the car?
Where shall I start... I owned the car for 18 months and the following went wrong: Gearbox failure Clutch failure Electric Window failure Water Pump Failure Temp sensor failure Not quite what I expected from a Volkswagen. The mileage was 36k when I bought it and 60k when I sold it.
What's most practical about your car?
Velour seats are comfortable on the SE. Boot space good.
