What does this car say about you?

Down to earth guy, simple, reliable and not a poser.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They love it, the one thing Golf have that no other car does is repeat. As other cars get old, golfs just become classics and even a 13 year old golf like mine, kept in good condition still gains respect on the roads. I've got friends with porsche's and jags that still compliment my golf.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Definatly. If you want a reliable, solid everyday car you can't go much wrong with a golf. I've never had any problems with it and for peace of mind I'd recommend getting the vw service plan and keep it within the dealer network.

What are you likely to buy next?

Probably an Audi S5.. Let me explain, the only problem with the golf is it's perfect as a reliable everyday car with a little bit extra but as I only do 4000 miles a year and don't use it for work it lacks that special X factor. Thats why I'm considering a M3 or S5 but I would still recommend or even get another golf if I needed the practicality.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Very nippy around town, I think the 1.8 20v turbo is the best engine to get in this model. Plenty fast enough and not to bad on fuel either for the performance you get. Not too good in the wet though as it understeers a fair bit if you push it round corners.

    What's it like to park?

    Very easy!

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing outside normal wear and tear, the only things I've replaced on it are tyres and a battery since my 5 years of ownership. I previously had a problem with the vehicle steaming up all the time and it turned out to be a cracked pollen filter cover caused by the dealer damaging it whilst replacing the pollen filter during a routine service causing rain water to drip on to the pollen filter and be drawn in to the car.

What's most practical about your car?

Once you remove the parcel shelf and fold the seats down it's surprisingly spacious for transporting large goods, especially from IKEA.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

    Heated Recaro Leather seats.
