  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Apart from the fact that you need a car with a big boot, absolutely nothing.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    They won't notice.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Your heart tells you to try something new and exciting, but your head tells you to stick with it, but possibly chose a diesel next time.

What are you likely to buy next?

Depends on my requirements. If there is no longer a need for something with as much space, a coupe of some sort would be better. Otherwise the new diesel Legacy looks good.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

It is a big heavy car, which does not enjoy corners. But for driving on motorways the 150bhp, 2.0 litre petrol is excellent. If you are towing you will find it struggles at low revs, and you may find yourself shifting down on motorways. Whilst the petrol engine is pleasant to use, it is very thirsty. On one motorway run, while towing, average fuel consumption was well below 20mpg. In mormal conditions you would struggle to achieve 30mpg.

    What's it like to park?

When it comes to parking it is a big car, but manageable. If you have difficulty with parking normally, then rear sensors would be a must.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

After sixty thousand kilometres, the Passat is holding up well. A slight vibration in the glove box is the only noticeable problem.

What's most practical about your car?

Five seats and a huge boot, make this an extremely practicle load carrier. It is also a reasonably good tower, crusing comfortably at motorway speeds with a trailer of about 400kgs.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Electric handbrake is not very intuitive at first, but makes hill starts very easy.
