In their own words

Bought this car new back in 2016, the first time I've ever bought new after years of saying it's a waste of money. I was delighted at first at enjoyed all aspects of ownership. Unfortunately, after 2 1/2 years and only 17000 miles a couple off problems have surfaced which have left me feeling that the renowned VW quality and service is something of a myth. Firstly, despite my always driving sympathetically with regards to the clutch, it became evident that it was slipping on high gears. Investigation by my local dealer showed that it had slipped to the point of damaging both the clutch and the flywheel, both of which had to be replaced. A £2000 job, as it wasn't covered under warranty despite numerous explanations of how careful of the clutch I am. Fortunately, the dealer immediately offered to halve the bill. Secondly, within weeks of the clutch being done, I have now noticed a hole worn through on the drivers seat bolster. Something, which again is not covered under the warranty (wear & tear), despite the low mileage and age. As a result, I cannot wait for the day to come (7 weeks) when I can hand the car back and walk away. Yes, it's a fun car to drive but it appears to be built to only last out the warranty and has seriously damaged my opinion of VW cars. Probably going to Mini next time as friends have had much better experiences.
