  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good sturdy build. Better value than many alternatives.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Some costs on higher mileage examples, such as fuel tank, clutch, complete exhaust.

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Good fun on dry roads. Sometimes goes wide on corners if taken fast, or a little unstable in the wet, unless you get some bigger tyres for a bit more grip... (Volkswagen supply skimpy tyres.)

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Nippy little car... overtakes no problems... good on the motorway, although uses more a lot more fuel at over 3500rpm.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Always starts. Never let me down. A lot of replacement parts, but no major grief.

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Looks a bit like a grannymobile, but still delivers the goods better than many alternatives.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Driving position good. Firm seats and suspension, so a bit of a bumpy ride to be expected.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

    Door locks...?

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Never really been in contact, but I heard that the parts desk at Volkwagen is not exactly fantastic.

Absolutely no problems. Runs like new.

    Other

Fuel tank liable to corrosion around where the pipe joins at the top. Watch out for that one...
