Got it from VW dealer for a respectable price! you will struggle to get the performance, looks, quality and climate control from any other of the hot hatches!
Costs
I believe in paying for quality! but it's not that expensive really! fuel consumption is great! loves shell Optimax! insurance always a pain!

Driving
Safe and secure handling that's good fun! No problems in the wet! the GTi got stiffened sports suspension and good brakes! Gears fine! steering wheel a tad thin for grip! always look forward to driving mine!
Performance
The 1600 unit is torquey and revvy at the same time! powers always there! safe over taking! learnt to ignore the ""quoted 0-60 times"" - 7.5 seconds when tested for fun!

Niggles with the CD autochanger put right under warranty! other little niggles but not persistent!

Mine is in red which looks sortie, nice standard alloys! always quality image with VW GTI stuck on the car!
Comfort
If you treat the interior space as a coupes' you'll be ok! seats are firm but offer a nice support! ride is hard but not too tiring! i love the interior blue glow! engine noise is loud at speed but i want to hear it!
