Other Volkswagen Polo (2002 - 2009) models:

  • Summary

    2 out of 5 2.0

What does this car say about you?

As I bought it for my mother hopefully it says I'm kind, but then again with those brakes.........

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

A quality vehicle from a good manufacturer.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, as it is likely to last out my mother' s driving career. I do hope to stay within the VAG group for my own vehicles. I drive a T plate Polo estate which is superb and makes the experience we have had with this vehicle all the more disappointing

What are you likely to buy next?

Personally either a Seat Cordoba, Skoda Fabia or VW Bora (but not from a francised dealer) .

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £6,995

When did you buy the car?

    August 2004

Did you get a good deal and why?

A very good deal because of the offer at the time.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Perceived quality, strength and the offer at the time

    What was the dealer like?

Very good sales service. No pressue and thoroughly competent.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

Generally quite good with the exception of the brakes and the fact that it is truly awful in a crosswind. Worse than my Series 1 Discovery!

    What's it like to park?

    Very good.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Brakes are terrible, to say they are savage is an understatement. New ABS ecu has failed to improve the situation. A paintwork defect noticed 2 hours after collection took some 18 months (and countless arguments with dealer) to correct. Charged £163 for an oil change (first service) and on changing it from Longlife service to Time and Distance servicing they charged £9 per litre for 10/40W Semi-Synthetic! Will not return to dealer network.

What's most practical about your car?

It is reliable. The process required to drop the rear seat to enlarge the luggage bay is the worst I have come across in nearly 25 years of driving!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The adjustable seat height (no, really!) as without it I could not drive the car. It was however, a cost extra.
