In their own words

When I picked up the car I had great expectations as from my previous VW cars I owned. The car itself looks good from all angles from the outside. Nicely styled, with good layout inside the car with plenty of room. The infotainment system when I parked the car on the carpark in the sun in the hot weather decided that it wouldn't work with a message coming up stating 'Temperature not maintained, infotainment system switched off' . This meant that the Radio, all media systems, Sat Nav and everything else that operates through the infotainment system was worse than useless, it just wouldn't work until the temperature had cooled down. The handling of the car around usual routes I have always used with my previous, numerous VW cars that I have owned have had no problems with them holding the road. Unfortunately this one when I get to sections of the road where they are less than perfect it feels like it is not holding the road and trying to carry going straight when I'm trying to go around corners. The drivers assist in my experience isn't all that either. When driving along narrow, winding country lanes with driver assist set at medium. While going around a bend on one of these country lanes it beeped and almost instantaneously it did what I'd term as an emergency stop while my wheels was turning to the right. Because there was some loose grit on the road this put the car into a short skid making the car carry on in a straight line towards a grass bankside, stopping just short of running into the bankside. This caused a near accident in this car, not the first this has caused since I've had it. The service department admitted that the drivers assist is prone to activate like this if you are near grass verges and hedges that are over grown, passing closely to parked cars, high kerbs can even cause this and so on.,.... . Then there is the soaking wet carpets on the drivers side of the car. The air-conditioning condensate pipe was discharging into the car instead of outside and then I had to wait quite a number of weeks for the underlay to be delivered to replace the damaged underlay. I was loaned a courtesy car. I contacted VW UK who just referred me back to the Dealership for them to solve the problems. The garage will have had my car as many weeks as me when I get it back. The Last VW car I'll buy.

How reliable do you find the car?

scratches on dashboard, wipers bouncing across the screen and not clearing the rain, infotainment system switches itself off if its too hot, doesn't hold the road as well as previous VW cars owned, Driver assist nearly causing accidents false activations. Wet carpets from air-conditioning condensate pipe...….

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

It looks good inside and out that's as far as it goes. Don't buy one if your live in a hilly area and it costs more to run each week than a 1.4TDi Polo
