Value
Paid a very good price at a Volvo dealership, backed by an excellent full 2-year warranty.
Costs
1.8 returns around 350 miles to a tank of extra urban city driving, which is quite reasonable considering the weight of the car. Also due to Volvos safety record and security = cheap insurance.

It's no racing car, but a pleasure to drive and feels very safe and steady on the road.
