Value
Spec. new compares well with rivals but depreciation and maintenance costs more than destroy this comparability.
Costs
Depreciation poor, parts cost sky - high, petrol consumption not good.

Very good drive, marred only by somewhat hesitant throttle (a combination of "drive by wire" electronic throttle and turbocharger perhaps).
Performance
AWD and turbocharging more than adequate for the job.

Absolutely appalling! The worst car I have ever owned - bar NONE!!!!!! Structurally and mechanically sound but a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link! - in this case all the electronic components. A major breakdown every month since new!

Most people think it's a ""typical"" Volvo of old, but it isn't! Those in the know rate it however (if only they knew how unreliable it is!).
Comfort
Generally excellent, especially on long journeys. Around town all 70 (and previous 850 ones) can have a tendency to float somewhat over long road undulations.

Security
Average - deadlocks have saved the day in the past, but would not deter a professional. Alarm/immobiliser reasonable but prone to failure, especially in conjunction with bizarre interlinked faults elsewhere in the system.
Service
Frequent major and costly faults from new have destroyed one's belief in this once great car maker. Dealership unhelpful if not unsympathetic. Volvo Car UK an arrogant disgrace however! i am disgusted beyond belief by their dismissive attitude!!!

Electrical/electronic faults far beyond belief ! A major problem every three weeks from new, usually rendering the car undrivable. Vast costs and inconvenience ignored by Volvo. An absolute and utter disgrace!
