• Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

I neither know nor care! It's a smart car, I can turn up at a customer's site in it without looking like some ragamuffin, and that's enough.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

The family love the space and comfort and my kids are impressed by the performance. It's a big automatic diesel but it combines smoothness with an amazing amount of power, especially mid-range acceleration for overtaking and merging.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. It is exceptionally well equipped, comfortable, and still returns an average of over 40mpg on the motorway.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Another V70.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £11,000

When did you buy the car?

    February 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

A good deal, definitely. Phil Whitaker specialise in Volvos and have a good choice at similar prices. Numbers match benchmark prices from the press, cars are well presented and properly prepared.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Past experience with Volvo estates has been good, need a comfortable and reliable motorway car.

    What was the dealer like?

Courteous, charming, efficient. I would recommend them without hesitation.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Gorgeous. So much torque! At 70mph it's only doing 2000rpm thanks to the six speed autobox, the controls are light but feedback is good. It's noticeably quieter than the last (Classic) V70, which was a 2.5T CD petrol. There's less tyre noise and less wind noise and the engine is remarkably quiet.

    What's it like to park?

Doddle (it has parking sensors). I can parallel park in a space about 4ft longer than the car. Turning circle is not quite like the old 940, due to front wheel drive, but power steering is... powerful.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

    Not yet :-)

What's most practical about your car?

It seems designed to make driving as easy and calm as humanly possible.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

So many to choose from! The rain-sense wipers are good, the stereo is excellent, heated seats are lovely on a cold morning, but I think the best bit is the climate control. When you put everything on Auto, it just gets it right! I am waiting to see what the wife makes of the remote control for the satnav.
