What does this car say about you?

That I didn't want an Audi/Bmw/Merc. I know Volvo has always been the car preferred by older drivers but I think that image is rapidly changing. Just look at the new cars coming out C30/S60/XC60 they look fantastic. I think the German marks are going in the opposite direction with BMW and Merc looking dull. Audi's look great but I seem them more often than fords so no thanks.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everyone likes it. But there is the inevitable teasing about driving a Volvo. But I have always liked big cars.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No I don't think I would. Unfortunately it does make me feel old and sensible. It just does everything so well and in such a relaxed manner that you just slow down. Having driven the S60 RDesign I was very impressed. My car is a little slow and uninspiring. However if I had to keep it I would not be upset at all. Finally the 2.0d was the last of the old engines in this car. It is not economical. Make sure you get the revised option. I top out at 42mpg combined with virtually all of that motorway driving.

What are you likely to buy next?

I really can't decide. I flit between XC90, Q7 and the Jaguar XF.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    January 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

Lease car and was a great deal.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

This was a business lease car and Volvo offered much more attractive prices than the usual BMW, Audi of Mercedes. In fact they were cheaper than some mid-range brands too.

    What was the dealer like?

For servicing the dealer I use in Canterbury is fantastic. Maidstone was not good.

    What's it like to drive?

I think it's a perfectly decent drive. I sweep past people on the motorway constantly and it fees incredibly safe and refined. Of all the cars I have owned or driven this is the one I would want to be in if I had a crash. But it's not dynamic or exciting, is slips easily and the front wheels lack traction even for a 2.0d engine when it's wet.

    What's it like to park?

Fine if you have the reversing sensors which on my model were an extra??? seems madness to me. Without those I presume it would be the same as any other big estate.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing at all. It feels very well put together and reliable. I do quite high mileage and have just ticked over 50,000 in two years. So far only needed the front tyres changed so it is proving very practical.

What's most practical about your car?

It's all good really. Lots of space for front and rear passengers. Luggage compartment is an excellent shape with some neat little built-in features. If I had one gripe its the quality of leather. It's very soft and easy to scratch. This seems add odds with what most people think of Volvo as being.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Bluetooth and Ipod connection are fantastic. The seats are brilliant. In my opinion you MUST opt for reversing sensors unless you live in the country and park on a drive.
