Volvo XC60 SUV R-Design Pro T8 Twin Engine AWD auto 5d Owner Review

In their own words
The car was bought as an urgent replacement when our BMW was stolen, therefore we did no prior research. It was our first experience of owning a plug-in-hybrid. The car is well proportioned and comfortable to drive thanks to the air suspension and its sports trim. The T8 engine pumps out more than enough power. Electric range is 20 miles at present. The central console is a pain to use and is a driver distraction as it lacks buttons and knobs. Being touch-screen I find I have to take my eyes off the road far too often to operate. The car is equiped with voice control, but this is fiddly and tempramental. The front passenger seat lacks power controls.
I like the overall size, engine power, boot capacity and comfort when driving long distances in Europe.
I dislike the digital touch-screen central console as it lacks knobs, but I can live with it..
The car has not been reliable and has spent a considerable amount of time in the garage over the last 17 months with significant faults to critical components. The cost of repairs have been horrific.
How reliable do you find the car?
Very unreliable with costly repairs.
February 2024. Car could not be charged. Volvo dealer diagnosed a failed on-board charging module and quoted £2k for repairs. In the event, Volvo UK contributed 40% goodwill gesture towards the cost of the repairs, so we paid £1,275.70
May 2024. Issues with power delivery from stand still and car became dangerous to drive. Volvo diagnosed an ERAD failure. Car was off the road for about 2 months whilst we negotiated with Volvo who declined to contribute. Cost of repairs in August 2024 was £3,000.
May 2025. Car developed oil leak at rear axle. Car returned to different dealer as the local Volvo garage has now closed down. Cost of repair £897.36
July 2025. Suspension service warning light. Volvo dealer diagnosed a rear offside air bag failure that in the process burned out the air compressor. Cost of repair £2,800
Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Car is comfortable to drive and has plenty of power. Good for long journeys to Europe.
