What does this car say about you?

It is a cool car but perhaps I should have listened to my head rather than my heart when I was out looking for a car!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They think I was mad to buy an Alfa, and I would probably agree with them now.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, Alfas depreciate far too quickly and they are still not that well built or engineered. It not very comfortable and is definitely not a sports car in the Alfa tradition.

What are you likely to buy next?

I think I will go back to SAABs. I had 6 trouble-free years with two great cars, I don't really get the Alfa mentality.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £32,000

When did you buy the car?

    November 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

I bought one of the first Breras in the country (2006)so it was loaded and no way were they giving discounts.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I loved the looks and I have always lusted after an Alfa Romeo. I wanted to believe that Alfa really had changed and could build reliable cars.

    What was the dealer like?

Brilliant, they are the oldest Alfa dealer in the UK and couldn't be faulted. They live and breathe Alfas.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Ok, but not great, when it's going but you always have a nagging doubt as to whether you are going to get there and back! It does feel heavy and underdeveloped as if Alfa spent all the money on the looks and didn't have enough money left to get the basic engineering right

    What's it like to park?

Awful - but you do get rear parking sensors as standard.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Yes loads. Alfa replaced my first Brera (2.4 JTD) in November 07 after it had two major breakdowns in just over a year. The replacement has not been much better. Two major breakdowns in 18k miles, it is still in the garage (3 weeks) with a broken gearbox. Appalling for a £32k car.

What's most practical about your car?

Nothing is practical, but thats not the point is it. It is a car that tugs at your heartstrings and eventually breaks them. A true latin!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The glass roof and the Blue and me.
