  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Solidly built and quality feel Sport spec gives extras such as sports seats, 18"" alloys, etc. Has most things you need. Looks expensive compared to more mundane cars, but BMW image is skyhigh

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fairly good fuel consumption. Servicing can be pricey from dealer, but intervals are quite spaced apart. Hardly uses consumables, but 18"" tyres are expensive

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Surprisingly agile with sport suspension, but can feel very heavy at parking speeds

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

Lethargic acceleration below 2K revs, but picks up well after that. Nevertheless it's no fireball and don't expect to outrun any hot-hatches

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Excellent reliability so far. Airbag fault for no reason. Watch for problematic CD changers

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

Still has quality image. Only negative comment is that they are now very common which is true. There is a reduced sense of exclusivity. But it undeniably looks fantastic in sport spec

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Sports seats excellent for long distances. Very refined and quiet, but some tyre roar. Has most creature comforts. Hard suspension

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Seems fine, but i'm always worried someone might try to nick it! Consider a tracker

    3 out of 5 3.0

Good, but some of the staff are little snooty
