    4 out of 5 4.0

Initial depreciation is always high for the bigger, thirstier models, but a real bargain at 3+ years old. I'd recommend buying from a main dealer. It will cost more, but the warranty is excellent, and BMW have never quibbled - even replaced a battery.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Expect around 25MPG, so probably not for the very high mileage driver. Main dealer servicing is not cheap, but quality is high. The most expensive service is around £350, but fortunately only every 2-3 years depending on mileage.

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

An excellent blend of performance, handling, refinement, and comfort. The understated looks combined with the smooth, powerful V8 make this a real 'Q' car that can be used for family holidays, commuting, and solo recreational stints.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Effortless and graceful. Semi-manual option if you really want some fun, but auto is fine in most situations.

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Generally very good. One breakdown caused by radiator hose connection to radiator - fixed under warranty.

Discrete elegance, compared with most other options that give this level of performance. Non-sport version is most understated.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very comfortable, great cabin ambience - especially compared tom the new model. Quiet, good ride, well-equipped.
