What does this car say about you?

I'm getting old - but this is in the UK. Ford launched this model to capture the imagination of the youth market, a pseudo hopped up off road look that, in the UK, missed the mark & found favour with folks often referred to as Gran & Grandad. In Northern & Southern Europe, the young 'uns 'get it' & use it as Ford intended. So while it's not as hip as a Fiesta, it has more space & a better view of the road, same running costs & is usually driven by a GRINNING Gran/Grandad. With age comes wisdom.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They know I buy 'sleeper' cars that are generally under rated & overlooked, then they take notice & see the point of my purchase. This is no different - 'Wotcha bought that for?' soon becomes 'This is a bit of alright, init?'.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I'd like more of them, now. So yes, I'd buy again.

What are you likely to buy next?

No idea. It'll have to be good to compete with the Fusion.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    October 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

Seller was keen to move a low mileage, kept in one family vehicle that was very realistically priced. Leather, alloys, auto, what's not to like?

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

A reliable, 'proper' automatic with raised driving position. Under rated, so a great second hand price.

    What was the dealer like?

    What's it like to drive?

I've driven 2CVs to Merc 500s, side valve engines to stop start hybrids, vans, trucks, sports cars, the lot, well over a hundred different models. This is the easiest. It takes you back to the small car chuckability that you loved but lost when you graduated to larger, more expensive motors, it doesn't ride like a BMW but then it doesn't cost anywhere near as much to buy, run, repair.

    What's it like to park?

Doesn't need parking sensors, I can drive. If you can't put this into an available space, hand it over to your guide dog - It's that easy, Fido will cope for sure.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing so far but when it does, new bits cost buttons, especially if you look on ebay.

What's most practical about your car?

It's the easiest car to drive. Don't usually go for autos, like to shift cogs myself but even I have to admit that the seamless change, the 'push you back in the seat' pull away, the one foot driving style, light, accurate steering that still has 'feel', chuck it around handling......

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The more gadgets on a car, the more there is to go wrong & disappoint you when it breaks, the more it costs to repair. So I like the honest simplicity of this little motor. There's no special feature but the auto is to be admired. No frills like the temperamental Meriva Easitronic (£££££ when, not if, it busts), it's a proper auto of old that just works really well, long term, tried & tested.
